Lumi Verdugo
Trained
as a potter at the University of Chile, Lumi Verdugo joined and worked at
Seattle Pottery Northwest since 1969 to 1973. During this short stay in the
US, she had her first solo show at the Seattle Berg Gallery in 1969. She returned
to Chile to set up one of the first reduction fire potteries in Santiago and
presented her work at several local galleries and juried art shows.
She returned to the US in 1974 , joined Pottery NW as Associate Potter and set up her studio in Seattle. During the 1975 Northwest Craft Exhibition she received her first US award from the University of Washington Henry Gallery. She was appointed as art teacher at Lakeside School in 1980. Since 1975 her Seattle studio has been producing and presenting work in art galleries and juried art shows in the NW, including the Seattle NW Art Center, Panaca Gallery in Bellevue, and the Bellevue Arts and Crafts Fair.
During
the last six years, since she moved her studio to Friday Harbor, she has been
producing and contributing to the arts and crafts of the islands, including
Mud to Magic Exhibition, the Best of the San Juan's fair, the Dimensions Art
Gallery group show, the Studio Tour; and some of her pieces have been purchased
for permanent display in the Lambiel Art Museum on Orcas Island.
